A Howards 215/225-112 cam as suggested or a Lunati High Efficiency 215/225 with a little more lift (if buying new springs) would work really well and could probably idle a little lower than you're idling now and give the impression it was "hitting" more. Not knowing the compression or stall speed of the converter, I'd tend to go on the smaller than larger side of things. An RPM intake is a great choice and flows enough air that it can be used on larger more powerful future builds while still providing great performance on smaller lower powered builds. There are a few that aren't that bad, but the Torquer II is not a good intake. However, if I didn't know what I had to begin with, new springs are cheap insurance.Īll that said, I agree with Guy on the single plane. If you have a dial indicator, you could turn the engine by hand tools and see what kind of lift you have now and use a feeler gauge to see how much more lift you could get on the current springs.

If you have a cam going away you may have a cylinder or two down on pressure, but it'll still give you an idea of where you're at now. If you don't know the compression ratio and even if you do I'd do a compression check to get an idea based on the current cylinder pressure.

So, I'd budget for a set of valve springs while I was at it.

Stock springs are typically a little on the weak side for the new more aggressive lobe profiles. First, I would check the lift capability on the springs.
